News flash.

I just got off the phone with Leon Lewis, Program Manager of the DC Real Estate Commission (DLCP) and his colleague, Stacey Price, Commissioner Administrator, also of the Real Estate Commission. See https://dlcp.dc.gov/page/real-estate-commission#four They reached out to me on a conference call.

Short version: they have to investigate the situation and review the emails between DLCP and me on this topic, but it appears that the email from the DLCP General Counsel yesterday (stating that our GM would not require a license) was in error based on their speculation that the GC thought I was referring to a company and not an individual. While on the phone with them I sent them the SPCA Board announcement email with Mr. Bodden’s CV and the GM job description and their initial response was that the job description certainly seems to fall under the statute. They stressed how DC is one of the few jurisdictions which require an individual to have a DC Property Manager’s License. When I received the GC’s email I thought it was incorrect – especially when this morning I received a follow-up email from another DLCP employee confirming that a license was required and forwarded it to the GC and asked why the discrepancy – but it never occurred to me that she may have misunderstood the question.

I stressed to Mr. Lewis that I would not feel comfortable having our new GM start Monday if a license is required and he said they hoped to get me a definitive answer by close of business Friday.

Unlike the Board I will, of course, keep the community posted.
